DescriptionRodney Thomas - Original 1988 Gouache. On paper laid down on heavy card. Inscribed below. Also inscribed on the reverse: 'Rodney Thomas, 381 Kings Rd, SW10'. Signed and dated. In fine condition.Rodney Thomas was born in 1902 into a family of architects. After the early deaths of his parents, he was looked after by his architect uncle, Sir Brumwell Thomas. Rodney studied architecture at London University, but spent more time drawing and painting nearby at the Slade School of Fine Art. He also attended the Byam Shaw School of Art and the sculptor Leon Underwood's private school in Hammersmith, west London, where he met Henry Moore and the future Surrealist Eileen Agar, who was to become a lifelong friend.
