George Henry Downing (1878-1940) - Signed Original Late 19th Century Watercolour. Signed to the lower left, presented in a dark wood frame. Signed. On wove. Some light foxing and minor discolouration present, typical of a painting this age. Frame is in good condition.

Artist Biography

George Henry Downing (1878-1940) was a painter born in Portsmouth, Hampshire and studied at Portsmouth School of Art. He subsequently worked as a painter, mainly of landscapes and portraits and from1901 to 1911 he taught as a Science & Art Teacher. He also taught for several years at Southern Boys Secondary School in Portsmouth. Downing was elected RBA in 1921 and also showed at the Abbey Gallery and at the RA. Portsmouth Art Gallery have a work in their collection.
