Claude Spero - Greenwich with a View over London 1890
DescriptionClaude Spero - A very fine pencil drawing inscribed, dated and monogrammed. Inscribed in French la ??? De Parade, Greenwich 26 Mai '90. Monogrammed CS.Claude Spero was a French artist working primarily on the South coast of France in the late 19th and early 20th Century. All of the works that we are selling are from albums of his watercolours and drawings. Many are signed and a few are dated (all from the 1890's). All are unquestionably by his hand. Because these works are from an album, they have never been exposed to light, smoke, or other noxious influences. As a result, they are generally in the finest original condition. Some look as if they could have been painted yesterday. (There are a couple of exceptions where it appears the works were displayed and later added to the album, and this has been noted). The works are of varying levels of finish: some are rough sketches, some are unfinished, and some are magnificent polished works of art. All are unframed. I now think that Claude Spero is a pseudonym for Constatntin Schwarz. I have found two more albums clearly inscribed as the work of Schwarz but containing works signed by Claude Spero, or with the CS monogram found on some of Spero's work. Obviously, the initials are the same. You can see our full collection of Claude Spero art here Size: 13 x 22cm (5.1" x 8.7")
