1853 Watercolour - South African Mountains
Description
An interesting 19th century watercolour, monogrammed indistinctly and inscribed 'View from the Doorn Mountain looking towards the River Kie in the Anatolas, British Kaffraria, South Africa'. The artist has used gum arabic to enhance the compositional depth of this panoramic scene. The delicate brushstrokes and verdant colour palette is typical of Victorian landscape painting and suggests the artist had a professional understanding of the medium. On watercolour paper.Condition
The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. With some light foxing, surface scratches and creasing to the edges, as shown.
